UNIT 9 MOTIVATION

Motivation involves feelings and thoughts about desire of keeping on doing something; moreover, it is a key factor in the Language Learning Process.
Motivation is influenced by some factors like: usefulness of the language, interest in the target language culture, confidence, encouragement, and support from others, wishing to communicate, and interest in the learning process. In fact, all of those factors assume an important role in students´ cognition. It is the teachers´ role, to motivate students through the use of some strategies to apply when learners do not feel comfortable by acquiring a second language.
For example, if there is a student in the classroom, who is demotivated to talk in front of the rest of the students, the teacher should motivate him/her by rising up confidence. Some controlled practice activities as drills, information-gap activities will aid that student to pratice and use the language according to his/her needs. "Motivation to learn thus cannot be separated from our opportunities to personalise that learning" (Nakata, 2016). This author claimed that students also maintain a narrow relationship with their own learning process. Of course, if we prepare active students, this process will succeed as soon as they get interested in the four language skills: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. "Learning to communicate through language is an arduous taks that needs constant encouragement" (Gowda, 2010) Gowda presented a perspective of how language communication requires to be fully reinforced by encouragement, from teachers, classmates, and parents even. The most important fact, is to make pupils work in positive and right contexts and let them to be able to achieve their goal; to learn a foreign language, in this case, English language.

  1. Valeria I agree with your citation because motivation is closely related with the way we personalize it, because each person has different motivations in their lives and when we have an intrinsic motivation we do everything to achieve something
